All you need to know about The Flex Bust by ADYKA
Posted by Erica Taveras on
Hello there! and welcome to the wonderful world of flexible doll bewbs! :D I’m super excited to finally introduce you to them!
Whether you've never heard of silicone busts before or you actually already own one, the Flex Bust bust by ADYKA is something different, and I will do my very best to tell you all about it 💗.
A few years ago, I used to own an awesome silicone bust and a torso from a Japanese crafter, and Lemme tell ya’, they were so much fun! Amazing pieces of art. But there were things that I believe should be done differently, and I am not talking about design flaws no no… Silicone busts are incredibly hard to find! You pretty much need connections in order to get one lol. There is usually a waitlist that could last several months and they only make them in small batches which makes them very rare, you can’t just easily buy one. Another thing is that they never make them in dark skin tones (which I understand why they don’t, more of this below), I thought it would be sooo cool if my darker girlies could wear them as well.
And so I decided to make my own soft bust, one that is super easy to purchase, comes in all skin tones, solves design flaws that silicone busts are known for and has a reasonable price.
So how does the Flex bust compare to vinyl and other softer silicone busts? Well, let’s get right into it! :D
The material
As the name suggests, the Flex Bust is super flexible and the breast are squishy, and this is possible thanks to the use of two materials: Silicone on the outside and a thin layer of clear harder silicone on the inside.
I didn’t want a bulky-looking neck or a bust that collapses too easily. So I came up with the idea of a lining that will give structure to it but still preserves flexibility. And so we added a thin layer harder silicone behind the softer silicone. The lining is permanently fixed to the silicone so don’t try to remove it or you could break your silicone surface.
In comparison to existing BJD silicone busts, the silicone I use is harder and more firm, So don’t expect the breast to be as squishy as a peach pai bust. I made it this way to make it more resistant to getting dented or breaking. Which is a problem you will encounter with softer silicone busts. It also doesn’t attract nearly as much dust as softer silicone so you hardly ever have to clean it.
The hand feel of the material is soft and the surface has a lot more grip than vinyl. For example, if you put a top or a bikini on her, the fabric will stay right there where you place it, it will not swing around, which could be a blessing or a curse, this depends on you :).
We rub the busts with a special non-toxic and skin safe powder in order to remove grip and give them a smooth velvety feel. It's a silicone based powder and since silicone likes to stick to silicone, the powder stays in the bust, not in your hands or your clothes. (Baby powder will do the job as well, more about this below). Here are some photos of how the bust looks on the smart doll body:
The size
I am calling the size L+. As I stated in the product page, this is an original sculpt made from scratch. I think we could all use some biggies, so I made them bigger than the L bust, but not as big as the XL.
As I was working on the sculpt, one thing that I always wonder is "Why do they always put the nipples so high up in doll breast?" lol. it would look more natural and realistic if they were placed lower and it would give me more cleavage space. Whenever I dress my dolls in a revealing cleavage style, the fabric is always right on the edge where the nipples are, because they are so high! Don't get me wrong I don't hate this lol, but I always thought that the nipples should go lower,
I placed the nipples lower for a more natural look and more cleavage space. You can see this in the photos below:
How to put it on and move the neck
The clear lining gives the head a lot of stability, So your head will not be wobbly by any means. You will be able to flex the neck and turn the head side to side - and it will hold the pose. The neck is specially super flexible so you can do more extreme poses. Here is how to put it on:
BUT, the head will not be as rock solid in place as it is with vinyl, the reason for this is because vinyl is much harder, so the head has a hard surface to rest on. With silicone, the head is resting on something soft, so it’s not the same feel as vinyl. But still, the stability of the head improved greatly compared to a bust with no backing on the neck.
I still want the head to be rock solid in place eventually. And I will solve this with my upcoming silicone torso. I can’t change the existing smart doll skeleton to add a rest place for the head, but I can design my torso’s skeleton to include this for sure.
This is important: When you want to move the neck around, just make sure to flex the neck itself, try not to pull the head too hard. Like this:
Skin tone match comparison photos
Below are some photos where I show the bust next to a vinyl piece. We did our very best to match the skin tone as close as we could to the vinyl. But please note that the match is not 100%.
The closest match are milk and cinnamon. Then for the blue, I'd say the silicone is a little darker than the vinyl. For Tea the color is very close but not 100%. As for Cocoa color, this one is having a bunch of problems in production so this skin tone will have to be released later :(
I used a brand new milk bust to color match, I managed to get one right before they discontinued them. So it will match your newer doll better than the older ones. My Mirai doll is at least 5 years old, meaning that she has become much more yellow in time. So the bust doesn't match her perfectly, but it is barely noticeable in camera. Below I'm showing the silicone bust next to a brand new Milk bust.
How to clean it and treat stains
In case you didn't know, silicone busts in general (not just this one) LOVE to attract dust and lint, so you have to clean them from time to time. Given the fact that the Flex Bust is made of a harder silicone, it is not nearly as sticky as other soft busts, meaning that it doesn’t attract as much dust so you don’t have to clean it that often (I nearly never clean them).
But if you really want to clean it at some point, this is how:
For Milk and Cinnamon skin, you can just use any cheap white baby powder from the drug store. But for darker skin tones and blue I recommend using Silicone finishing powder for better results. Your bust already comes rubbed with it so you don't have to do this unless you wash them.
So what is this special powder we use? I'll tell you all about it now :)
It is a silicone finishing powder specially designed to matte and maintain silicone parts. It has microscopic transparent light diffusing micro bubbles of silicone that stick to the bust, eliminating shine, glare and grip and gives it a velvety hand feel.
I am working on having this magic powder available on my website ASAP so is not a pain in the booty for you to find (actually I already ordered it so it's on its way!) But in the meantime you can buy it from pixiekissedbabies, they are based in the UK. They have the powder a little expensive, But don't worry, mine won't be expensive because it will come in a small presentation, you don't need a lot of it. A tiny bit of powder will go a long way.
Applying the baby powder is almost like applying makeup. Instead of dropping the powder directly to the bust, you can also pick up the powder with a contouring makeup brush and apply it to the bust like you are putting blush on your face. This method is actually better. When you first get your bust you will notice that it looks very dusty. You can remove the excess powder by brushing it. I included a video on how to brush it on the product page.
For those of you in the USA, Here is the amazon link for the exact brushes I got. You only need one or two not a whole set. But since this set had a good price I just purchased them all lol.
Also, If you are wondering if it can get stained from dark colored fabrics, the answer is YES, it can.
How to treat stains Update:
You can use acne cream to treat stains and it will not damage your bust (given the fact that this is a harder silicone). But I better be more specific about this to prevent any issues:
I tested this method for a few weeks and sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't (like vinyl): The cream you can use is specifically Benzonyl Peroxide 2.5%. Don't use any cream of a percentage any higher than 2.5%. Like Oxy10 for example, that would be too strong. Apply the cream to the stain and leave it in there for no more than 3 hours. Then rinse with water and hand soap and re-apply powder.
Another thing you can do is take some Oxiclean powder and add some water to it to form a paste, rub the paste on the stain and let the silicone absorb the oxi for a few hours. Then rinse with soap and water and re-apply the powder.
If none of this work, then this other method will definitely work:
Don't do anything, lol. The stain will fade away on its own in time (in about a month). Silicone has the tendency of being absorbent. So the stain will just get absorbed deeper and deeper within the silicone until is not visible anymore. So the best thing to do is just chill and wait until it's gone on it's own.
To prevent stains in the first place don't put any dark-colored fabrics on it.
Do they come painted?
Nope, it’s actually better they don’t. Don’t get me wrong, you can absolutely paint them if you wish. But because the material is soft and flexible, the paint and the lacquer will chip away eventually. I painted a peach pai one time which is even softer silicone and it looked good. But the paint job eventually faded. It lasted about a year (and I was careful about it).
If you want a permanent paint job you can use silicone-based paint, in that case the paint will not chip away.
Do Not use pure acetone on them.
Never apply vinegar to your bust
Possible imperfections
The softer the material the harder it is to cast it. So the surface on your bust may not be 100% perfect. You may see some flow marks here and there. This is normal. Please understand that these are handmade items. So they are not perfect by any means.
As stated before, we rub powder on all busts to remove grip. But the powder is more noticeable on the darker colors, specially Cocoa, making them appear sort of dusty. You can help improve the dusty look by brushing it with a clean makeup brush (like you are applying makeup).
If you are planning on getting a cocoa bust, you might want to wash off the powder and just let it be grippy lol. Unless you don’t mind the dusty look. This depends on you of course :). Also, imperfections and flow marks from the mold are MUCH more noticeable on cocoa. Please do not purchase this one unless you are ok with this.
Regardless of the skin tone You may see a white mark in between the breast, that’s the powder, just rub it with your fingers or with a brush and it will disappear.
When I was working with the darker skin tones, I learned why other people don’t bother making them, the darker you go the more noticeable imperfections will be. If you get a scratch or a mark on a light skin tone, you won’t even notice it, on a darker skin tone you’ll definitely see it. But even so, I still think they should exist. Dark skin tones are beautiful, just have to be more careful about them. But if you are picky about your dolls I recommend sticking to light skin-toned silicone busts. These are the kinds of marks that you can expect on darker skin tones:
This bust is definitely more resistant to dents and scratches but it can still happen eventually (given the softness of the material). If you leave the neck bent in the same position for a long time you may get a line where it was bending. Also, clothes that have a bunch of texture might eventually mark them as well, like lace. Just don’t leave clothes with a lot of texture on them for a long time. Just know that this is all normal. Don’t be too picky and just enjoy and have fun :D.
The conclusion! :D
Aaaaaand, thats it! Overall these are the perks of the Flex Bust:
- The bust is very flexible, and the breast are squishy to an extent.
- It does not look bulky anywhere and the neck has good structure to support the head.
- Harder and More resistant to dents.
- Good quality!
- Good price (which I will reveal later).
- Protective packaging, I suggest keeping your packaging in case you want to put it away and keep it protected.
- Original sculpt.
- Tons of love have been put into it.
- No skin tones left behind.
The disadvantages:
- Silicone in general is more fragile than vinyl so you have to be careful.
- Not as soft and squishy as a peach pai bust.
- You may have to clean them sometimes (if you want, I almost never do). The frequency of the cleaning will depend on your climate and the way you use the bust.
- Imperfections are more noticeable on the darker skin tones compared to light skin tones.
- The skin tone match is good but not 100%, I’d say is about 98% for all colors except for Cocoa, this later one is about 95%. If you are picky about skin tones please consider this.
- Overall, I don’t recommend them if you are picky in general.
If you have any questions, please comment below :D that way everyone can see the answers. Thank you so much for reading you sweet stuff 💕.

Are smart doll and dolfie dream busts compatible with the flex doll? I want to add a smaller bust too.
I’m a bit confused as to what parts can be used with the flex body
What are the measurements of the flex doll? I don’t see them anywhere.
I like the doll, but I need these questions answered before purchasing.
I am also interested in a mold of the doll, like a mannequin. Do you make any to sell?
Thank you

If I got one of these, I’d just bring it to school and squish it all day. Also, am I the only one thinking “Why are people saying milk busts? They want real milk?” but then I notice milk is a skin tone-

On the subject of flexible silicone doll parts, have you considered making poseable hands for Smart Doll? Maybe with a wire frame?
